National Weather Service, Stephenson County Weather Spotter Training Class to be held at Highland Community College Thursday, March 6, 2014

Stephenson County Weather Spotter Training Class

When: Thursday, March 6, 2014  6:30-8:30pm  (Registration begins at 6:00pm)

Where: Highland Community College, 2998 W Pearl City Rd, Freeport, 61032, Building H, Room 201

West: RT 20 to Bus 20, right onto Park Blvd, right onto Pearl City Rd
South: RT 26, left onto Empire St/Pearl City Rd
East: RT 20 to Bus 20, straight to South St/Burchard Ave, left onto Empire St/Pearl City Rd
North: RT 26 to Empire St/Pearl City Rd

National Weather Service Weather Spotter training is FREE, open to the public, and lasts approximately two (2) hours. Spotter training classes cover severe weather hazards including thunderstorms and tornadoes. This includes the general structure and movement of severe thunderstorms, identification of storm features, and safety concerns.

*Weather Spotters and required to attend weather training every two (2) years.

Skynet Weather Spotter meetings will be held on March 8th and 15th. Skynet members may contact the EMA office to reserve one of these dates to attend.

Flood Inundation Mapping

Flood Inundation Map NOAA/USGS Flood Inundation mapping is now available to the public. These maps will show the extent of flooding that can be expected over a given area, helping indicate when floodwaters are likely to impact roadways, streets, buildings, etc. See it for yourself at the National Weather Service's Flood Inundation Mapping page.
